Prithvi Shaw drops a cryptic remark amid IPL resumption

CRIC Informer

Prithvi Shaw is looking to get back into cricket after not playing a competitive match since December during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. On Wednesday, he posted something intriguing on Instagram just before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 starts up again. The IPL was paused last week due to tensions with Pakistan, but it’s set to kick off again on Saturday, May 17, after both countries agreed on a ceasefire. Shaw, who set his base price at Rs 75 lakh, went unsold in the IPL mega auction.

Before the league resumes, Shaw shared on his Instagram story that he needs a break.

Once considered a rising star for Indian cricket, his recent struggles with form and fitness have taken a toll. He was left out of the Mumbai team over fitness issues, and his last game was in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 where he didn’t perform well.

Shashank Singh, a player for the Punjab Kings, spoke about Shaw’s situation. He mentioned Shaw as one of the players who could become great openers for India, putting him in the same category as Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. When discussing Shaw’s struggles, Shashank said, Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he goes back to his basics, he can achieve anything. I know him since he was 13, playing club cricket in Mumbai together. If you ask me what’s the issue, he’s got a different view on some things.

He suggested that Shaw could improve things like his work ethic, maybe go to bed earlier, or adjust his diet. Shashank concluded, If he can accept and change some of these things, it would be great for Indian cricket.
