The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken action against fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani for his recent social media activity following his exclusion from the Pakistan team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Dahani, who was not selected for the ODIs against Afghanistan and the Asia Cup, posted a cryptic tweet that indirectly referenced chief selector Inzamam-Ul-Haq and media outlets. The tweet playfully highlighted his identity as a Pakistani bowler and expressed surprise that his selection wasn’t discussed during the press conference.
After the tweet caught attention, the PCB communicated with Shahnawaz Dahani and verbally warned him about his social media conduct. The young pacer subsequently removed the posts, acknowledging the board’s concerns. This incident underscores the importance of maintaining professionalism, both on and off the field, in modern cricket.
“Seems they don’t know I am a Pakistani bowler, and no one in the press conference even asked him (Inzamam) about my selection,” Shahnawaz Dahani wrote.
As the cricketing community awaits the start of the Asia Cup 2023, scheduled to kick off on August 30th, Pakistan has announced its squad for the tournament. This selection is particularly significant, as most of the players from this squad are also expected to represent Pakistan in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup. Adopting a hybrid model, the Asia Cup will be contested from August 30th to September 17th.
The tournament format will comprise 13 matches, four playing on Pakistani soil and nine in Sri Lanka. Among the highly anticipated matches is the clash against arch-rivals India, scheduled for September 2nd in Pallekele. The possibility of facing each other again in the Super 4 stage sets the stage for a thrilling rivalry, with the potential of both teams progressing to the final if they perform well.
As cricket fans count down the days to the commencement of the Asia Cup, this event holds the promise of enthralling cricket, captivating performances, and a showcase of the region’s top talent. The tournament serves as a precursor to the World Cup and stands as a testament to the unifying power of cricket across boundaries.
