In the 37th match of the IPL 2024, Rahul Tewatia once again showed his batting skills and won the match for Gujarat Titans when other batters struggled to make runs. Right after the match, the all-rounder explained how he learned the art of finishing the matches in a crunch situation.
Rahul said he practices for those moments during net sessions. Tewatia was important for the Titans in their match against PBKS at Mullanpur Stadium, helping GT win by three wickets and got the two valuable points for the team.
During an interview with the broadcasters after GT’s game against PBKS, Tewatia discussed his mindset and approach while finishing a game. He noted that the team had given him a specific role, and he has been focused on fulfilling it.
“We practice these situations only in the nets (chuckles). We practice the same role given to us by the team. If we can nail the role, then what’s better than that?” Tewatia said.
The all-rounder played an explosive innings, scoring 36 runs off only 18 balls to steer his team to a crucial victory. While chasing a target of 143 runs, GT faced a setback as they lost important wickets rapidly, finding themselves at 103 for 4.
Tewatia disclosed that the team maintained confidence in achieving the target, even amidst the loss of wickets.
“After me, we had a bit of batting to come. Shahrukh Khan was there, and Azmatullah Omarzai was batting alongside me. We had the belief,” said Tewatia.
With 38 runs required from 24 deliveries, Tewatia got 13 runs against Harpreet Brar. During Kagiso Rabada’s over Tewatia struck three boundaries and Shahrukh Khan smashed a six to get 20 runs from that over.
