Pat Cummins Or Aiden Markram? SRH Announces Skipper For The IPL 2024

IPL 2024 has less than a month to go and one of the successful franchises Sunrisers Hyderabad has announced the skipper for the next edition. Aiden Markram, who captained the side last year has been replaced by the World Champion Pat Cummins.

While announcing the new captain, the franchise posted on X – “#OrangeArmy! Our new skipper Pat Cummins”.

In the mini-auction for IPL 2024, Pat Cummins was bought by the franchise for INR 20.5 Crore, making him the second most expensive player in the history of the tournament after Mitchell Starc.

In IPL 2023, SRH secured only four wins in 14 matches and had a disappointing IPL 2023 campaign under the leadership of Aiden Markram. The team finished at the bottom of the points table as a result.

The current deliberations revolve around the decision of whether SRH should consider a new captain or stick with Markram. This situation prompts contemplation about maintaining trust in Markram, who had earlier guided them to back-to-back titles in the SA20 League while playing for Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

During David Warner’s captaincy, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerged as one of the most consistent teams in the IPL for several years. From 2016 to 2020, they secured their berths in the playoffs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will play its first match on March 23 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
