After a tough seven-wicket loss to the Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captain Pat Cummins had some thoughts about their performance. He pointed out how challenging it was to face the Titans’ bowlers, especially their pace attack. “It was a bit poor on our part, but the Hyderabad pitch can be tricky,” Cummins commented after the match. He noted that when you lose a few wickets early, it really puts you on the back foot. The team posted a total of 152 runs for eight wickets in their 20 overs, which wasn’t enough. Mohammed Siraj had an exceptional day, grabbing four wickets for just 17 runs, while both Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan managed to take two wickets each.
In terms of batting for Hyderabad, Nitish Kumar Reddy was the top scorer with 31 runs. Cummins himself had a quick cameo, scoring 22 runs off nine balls, including three fours and a six, helping his side cross the 150-run mark. Cummins described how the wicket didn’t spin much and had a bit of dew, but overall, he credited the Gujarat team for their solid performance with the bat.
When it came to their turn to bat, Gujarat Titans wasted no time. Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 61 runs really set the tone, and he was supported nicely by Washington Sundar, who added 49 runs, and Sherfane Rutherford, who came in and scored a quick 35 not out. They wrapped it up with 20 balls to spare, marking a dominant win.
Washington Sundar, playing his first match for Gujarat Titans, expressed his happiness about the opportunity he received from the team. He shared his excitement about contributing to the team’s success. “I was told to stick around and help finish the game, which was good advice,” he remembered. Sundar mentioned how the wicket tends to get better as the game goes on, making it easier to chase scores that run into the 160-170 range. He said he was aware of that trend and it certainly helped him approach his innings. After they lost a few wickets early on, the coach had asked him to come in at the fourth position. He appreciated the chance to play and really enjoyed his time at the crease during that match.
