Pat Cummins drops a massive statement on Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 5th loss of the season

The Sunrisers Hyderabad faced off against the Mumbai Indians in their latest match of the IPL 2025 and, unfortunately for them, it ended in a disappointing fifth loss this season. Right from the start, the Pat Cummins-led team struggled to find their rhythm. The opening pair, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, just couldn’t get it together. Abhishek had a bit of luck on his side and managed to rack up 40 runs off 20 balls, but it wasn’t the best option for building a solid foundation. Travis, on the other hand, had a rough time at the crease, finishing with just 28 runs from 29 balls.

As the match dragged on, things started to look bleak for Hyderabad. It seemed like they might end up with a pretty low score. But then, Heinrich Klaasen and Aniket Verma stepped in. Klaasen scored a quick 37 runs while Verma chipped in with an unbeaten 18. Thanks to their effort, Hyderabad managed to post a total of 162, which honestly looked out of reach for a while.

When Mumbai took to the pitch to chase down the target, Hyderabad’s troubles continued. Rohit Sharma, the star batter for the home team, got them off to a decent start with 26 runs. Jacks, who had grabbed two wickets for just 14 runs in his first three overs, also found his groove and scored 36. With solid support from Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya, Mumbai successfully chased down the target, winning by four wickets and jumping to seventh place on the points table.

After the match, Cummins reflected on the team’s performance, admitting that the pitch was tricky and they fell a bit short with their total. It wasn’t the easiest pitch to bat on, he said. We definitely could have done with a few more runs. You usually expect the pitch to play smoothly, but it just didn’t work out that way. Their bowlers did a great job and managed to restrict us in several areas. With 160 on the board, you start to feel like it’s not quite enough.

Cummins also talked about their bowling strategy, explaining, We really tried our best with the ball. We knew we had to take wickets, and we had a plan for the later stages of the innings. We decided to go with Rahul, knowing the impact player would only bowl a couple of overs. It’s tough to win away from home, and this season hasn’t been clicking for us just yet. We’ve got a short break now, and we’ll be back at it again.
