Pakistan Announce 15-member T20 World Cup Squad, 2 Retired Players Added

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place from June 1 to June 29 in the West Indies and USA. This team will be captained by Babar Azam.

Before Pakistan, another team announced that Pakistan was the last team to announce their squad for this major ICC event. Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim have returned to the team, making a comeback after their retirement. The good thing is that eight members of the 2022 World Cup squad have been retained for this tournament.

All-rounder Salman Ali Agha and fast bowler Muhammad Irfan Khan, who were part of the 18-member squad for the series against Ireland and England, are not included in the lineup. Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan are among the 15 players chosen for their first T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, who last played in the 2016 and 2021 tournaments, are making a return.

After choosing the team, PCB’s statement reads, “This is an extremely talented and balanced side that has a mixture of youth and experience. These players have been playing together for some time and look well prepared and settled for next month’s event.”

The statement further added, “Haris Rauf is fully fit and bowling well in the nets. It would have been nice if he had gotten an outing at Headingley, but we remain confident that he will continue to maintain an upward trajectory in the upcoming matches, as he will have an important role to play along with other strike bowlers in the T20 World Cup.”
