Rohit Sharma and company snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as team India won a thrilling encounter against Pakistan by 6 runs while defending a below-par score of 119.
It was Indian bowling that stood to the fore and ran through Pakistan’s batting line-up. Team India’s Bowled brilliantly, especially Jasprit Bumrah, who once again was the standout performer, picking up three wickets in his four overs and giving away just 14 runs.
However, Jasprit Bumrah was not introduced into the attack from the start; instead, he was given the bowl in the third over.
Speaking about the decision, India’s former captain Sunil Gavaskar felt that Jasprit Bumrah should have been given the ball from the start itself.
Sunil Gavaskar said, “Our batters just went for the big shots and got out. They eventually got out in the 19th over as well. That is not good cricket. And the bowlers—they were the ones. The bowlers seldom get credit in Indian cricket. It’s good to see them. Jasprit Bumrah: I thought he should have bowled the first over and not the third over. Why waste 12 deliveries? Give it to your best bowler.”
Gavaskar further added, “Do you ask Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli to bat at No. 5 or 6? They are your best batters. So, they bat 1, 2. The best bowler gets the first over. He should have bowled the first over. Whatever it is, India kept their nerves and won the game. I think Pakistan lost their nerves.”
Team India’s next assignment is against the USA on June 12.
