Rohit Sharma was the highest-scorer during the 2019 ODI World Cup. He scored 648 runs at an average of 81.00. However, former South African legendary cricketer Jacques Kallis feels that in the 2023 ODI World Cup happening in India, England captain Jos Buttler would get the most number of runs.
Buttler will play the key role as England will look to retain the trophy. The wicketkeeper played a major role in England’s victory in the T20 World Cup last year and is widely regarded as one of the top performers in the IPL.
Buttler has played 96 matches in the IPL in which he has scored 3223 runs at an average of 148.32 runs. In the 2022 edition, he scored 863 runs from his bat in 17 matches at an average of 57.53.
In an interview with the ICC, the South African cricket legend expressed his belief that the England captain is well-suited to Indian conditions and anticipates that he will be an outstanding player for his team throughout the tournament.
“I think Jos Butler will be the leading run scorer. An outside call, but I fancy him in those conditions. Along with England having a good World Cup, I think, um, me, he’s going to be the one guy that stands up,” said Kallis.
