Not Rohit Sharma But Sunil Gavaskar Wants This Player To Captain India In Fifth Test Against England

Former Indian legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar has given a huge statement and asserted that Rohit Sharma should allow Ravichandran Ashwin to lead India in the fifth Test match against England to be played in Dharamshala.

Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the legends of the game and has achieved the remarkable milestones of surpassing 500 wickets and scoring over 3000 runs in Test cricket. Despite playing various roles throughout his career, captaincy has not been among them. As he participates in his 99th Test, he is on the verge of reaching the century mark in red-ball matches when India faces England in the fifth and final game in Dharamshala.

After the stump of the Day 3 game, Sunil Gavaskar said, “India wins in Ranchi and you go to Dharamsala. I hope that Rohit allows you to lead the team onto the field in your 100th Test match. That will be a wonderful gesture for all that you have done for India cricket.”

Gavaskar expressed his desire for R Ashwin to assume the role of Team India’s Test captain when Virat Kohli stepped down from the position. However, Ashwin declined to engage in the discussion.

“Sunny bhai, you’re being too generous. Thank you so much. I don’t expect anything. I have passed all such ambitions and I am enjoying every moment of my career. I am happy to be a part of this team and the longer my stint lasts, I will be happy,” responded Ravichandran Ashwin.
