If MS Dhoni chooses to play another IPL season, the legendary AB de Villiers believes that the World Cup-winning captain must guide his team. Dhoni’s future at Chennai Super Kings is a subject of much discussion. Dhoni has guided CSK to five titles, and the two have an unbreakable friendship.
With an eye toward the future, a day before the IPL 2024 season began, Dhoni gave the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Although Gaikwad did a respectable job as captain as a batsman, CSK was unable to advance to the IPL playoffs.
Dhoni has left everyone wondering, thus his IPL future is still up for dispute. 2020 saw his retirement from international cricket. Respectfully, de Villiers maintained on Wednesday that the captaincy change was a mistake, as he had stated at the beginning of the season.
“I wouldn’t say I labeled it a mistake, but I will only give you an honest response if you plan to report it correctly. In a selective media session organised by Jio Cinema, de Villiers stated, “What I meant by that was that with MS Dhoni around, playing against MS for so many years, that is the most intimidating sight to have him as an opposing captain.”
“By removing him as captain, they significantly reduced CSK’s intimidating factor. It has nothing to do with the captaincy of Gaikwad. He really seems to have a great career ahead of him, and he captained really well.”
But even with MS around, I always thought it would be a shame if he wasn’t the captain. They have previously attempted it. When Jadeja was removed mid-season, it didn’t work. You do, regrettably, need to review the outcomes this year.
“They performed admirably in most of the games, but ultimately they were unable to go to the knockout stages. It’s most obviously not due to Gaikwad’s leadership. The South African continued, “I do believe that MS should be captain while he is around.
