Not India But This Team Is Favourite To Win World Cup, Sunil Gavaskar Surprising Statement On Winner

The former legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar has given his prediction on the winner of the ODI World Cup 2023. Gavaskar feels that not India but England has a strong chance to win the 50-over tournament happening in India. The tournament will start on October 5 where the defending champions England will take on New Zealand.

During an interview with Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar identified England as the top contenders to clinch the World Cup title. He emphasised that England possesses all-rounders capable of turning the game in its favour. It’s worth noting that England secured their first-ever World Cup victory in 2019 by defeating New Zealand in a thrilling Super Over.

“The defending champions, England, because of the kind of talent that they have at, at the top of the order, the batting order, they’ve got two or three world-class all-rounders who can change the game with both bat and ball. They’ve also got a very good bowling line-up, an experienced bowling line-up, so at the moment in my book certainly,” said Gavaskar.

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan expressed confidence in India’s preparations for the World Cup, stating that they are meeting all the necessary criteria and are among the top contenders to win their third World Cup title this year.

I’m very excited to see how India performs and I really think they are one of the favourites, for sure because especially the last couple of series, like the Asia Cup, and the way India played against Australia as well in the home conditions. I think they are ticking all the boxes,” said Pathan.

India will play their first match on October 8 against Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
