The former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has suggested that if the Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB) team does not make it into the playoffs this year of IPL, star batter Virat Kohli should once again lead the team in the next season of IPL 2025.
Harbhajan believes that RCB’s recent improvement in performance is due to Kohli’s good form and aggressive leadership. He thinks having an Indian captain leading the team would be advantageous.
Since the start of the 2022 season, Faf du Plessis has taken up the captaincy of RCB, guiding them to the playoffs. Before this, Virat Kohli, who had led the team for more than ten years, stepped down from the captaincy after the 2021 season due to workload management reasons. It’s noteworthy that during the 2021 season, Kohli was concurrently leading the Indian team across all three cricket formats while captaining the Bengaluru-based franchise.
While talking to Star Sports, “If they don’t qualify, they should look to get some Indian guy. Why not bring Virat Kohli back as captain.”
“As Dhoni has a lot of impact in Chennai, Virat Kohli is a big leader, he knows the kind of cricket they need to play. Now they are playing with a lot of aggression and, a lot of intent and that is what Virat Kohli brings. I would like to see Virat Kohli leading the side going forward.”
During the IPL 2016 season, Virat Kohli served as the captain of RCB, guiding the team to the final match. His exceptional performance saw him score a record-breaking 973 runs that season. Throughout his captaincy, Kohli has led RCB in 143 matches, clinching victory in 66 of them.
