Nitish Rana Shares a Special Text Message Encounter with Gautam Gambhir

Recalling a conversation he had with the mentor prior to the commencement of the IPL 2024 season, former KKR captain Nitish Rana provided insight into Gautam Gambhir’s unwavering resolve. Nitish remembered a text message he had written to Gambhir, and the mentor’s memorable reaction, just after the Knight Riders claimed their third IPL title, crushing SRH in a one-sided final in Chennai.

Pat Cummins’ squad was bowled out for 113, the lowest team total in an IPL final, by KKR, who defeated SunRisers by 8 wickets. Throughout the season, the Knight Riders were renowned for their dominating brand of cricket. The Knight Riders won their third IPL championship, and their first since Gautam Gambhir’s second victory with the team in 2014.

Speaking to the broadcasters, Nitish Rana revealed that he had texted Gautam Gambhir to congratulate him on being named the team’s mentor. He added that he would never forget the man’s response. After serving as their mentor for two seasons, Gambhir departed Lucknow to become a member of the Knight Riders in 2024.

“I would like to tell you a little tale. I was so thrilled when GG bhaiya (Gambhir) was named the mentor that I sent him a lengthy message. However, in response, he said, “Thank you, but I would prefer it if we stood at the podium holding the trophy.” That day is now, and I will always remember that message,” declared Rana.

The Knight Riders performed like champions once more, topping the league standings and going undefeated in the playoffs, suggesting that Gautam Gambhir had an instant impact on his “second home.”

Finally, Shreyas Iyer emerged as the second skipper to win an IPL title with KKR, following Gautam Gambhir. After MS Dhoni, Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya, he was the fifth Indian to hold the cherished trophy.
