Nitish Kumar Reddy is over the moon with happiness after he helped India a lot in the remarkable victory in Delhi against Bangladesh by 86 runs during the second T20I of the three-match series on Wednesday –he even batted brilliantly scoring 74 runs off just 34 balls after coming in to bat with the team he walked in to, at three down and in trouble, having lost the top three batters cheaply.
Matching the most difficult situation, from 41/3, Nikesh put an ace up his sleeve in Rinku Singh, added a century partnership with him and took India to 149/4 in 13.2 overs, before falling himself. He would later go on to pick up two wickets with the ball as well, right-arm medium pace and won player-of-the-match award as well to finish off the unforgettable night on a high.
The boy aged 21 who shot to fame during IPL 2024 specifically played down the role of Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of Team India in this achievement.
“Honestly, it is Reddy who has to thank Gautam Sir for this. He then Elevate Me in a way That Please Trust your bowling, Reddy told Board of control for cricket in india (BCCI). “(He said) ‘when you bowl, you are a bowler, you don’t switch and think of yourself as a batsman who bowls’. That was his constant reminder and that somewhat sky rocketed me.”
“I don’t understand what encapsulates pride better than playing for the country and receiving the man of the match award, it’s just surreal and simply overwhelming, just want to savour this feeling,” said Reddy
Reddy hit 4 boundaries and 7 maximums in his explosive innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. He along with Rinku, 53 off 29, shared 108 runs for the 4 th wicket.
“We were just having a mutual conversation and not taking any sort of pressure and so as a result we did not strategize anything with regards to the score. There was a spinner who came on, and we thought this was the key over, so let’s attack,” Reddy said referring to Rinku.
“He (Rinku) was telling me that maybe it is God’s plan. We were just believing (in) it and we were just hitting the balls,” Reddy added.
