Nathan Lyon Eyes On Huge Milestone In 2nd Ashes Test, Tends To Join Elite List Of Warne, McGrath

The second Test of the Ashes Series will start on June 28. In the first match of the series, the hosts England lost to Australia by two wickets. In this match, the spin wizard of the Australian Cricket team will look to settle down with a huge milestone. Lyon has been excellent for Australia in the longest format of the game and now he eyes a special record.

Lyon has 495 Test wickets so far and if he manages to grab five more wickets, the off-spinner will become the third bowler from the Team to get 500 wickets in Test cricket. Before Lyon, the former Australian legendary leggie Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath have this milestone to their name.

The off-spinner from Australia showed exceptional dedication in the opening Test where the Australian team emerged victorious by a margin of two wickets at Edgbaston in Birmingham. He got two four-wicket hauls and maintained composure while bowling against the aggressive English batters.

The teammate of Lyon, Travis Head has said that Lyon has uplifted his game since 2021-2022 when the Ashes Series was hosted by the mighty Kangaroos.

While talking to Cricket.com.au, Head said, “Well, what was he, 400 (wickets), in Brisbane in the last Ashes (2021-22)? So, two years later and we are talking 500. He’s had an exceptional couple of years. This is a great test for him as well because no team has played him like this.

“He’s normally our banker, he is normally someone that sits in and goes at just two an over and we can rotate our quicks a little bit similar to how England did it last week and he has just got it on a dime,” he stated.

“So it was interesting to see how they attacked him and the success he had with it. He had a beautiful week. He bowled well. Each week he has been here, it has come out of his hand better. 500 Test wickets is amazing and it will be amazing to see how much further he can go with that. He has still got a lot of time left in him, I think,” Head added.
