The International Cricket Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India face Nasser Hussain’s harsh criticism because they failed to manage the T20 World Cup 2026 preparation process. Hussain accused the ICC of creating unfair cricket competition through its special treatment of major cricket boards which included its preferential treatment of India’s cricket board during his Sky Sports Podcast interview with Michael Atherton.
Hussain made his remarks after the BCCI terminated Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s contract with his Indian Premier League franchise. The sequence of events began when Bangladesh refused to send their team to India for their World Cup matches which led to their departure from the tournament.
When Pakistan declared their intention to boycott their upcoming group-stage match against India the situation resulted in a new level of confusion which affected the tournament schedule at the one-week mark before its planned commencement
Hussain expressed his strong approval of the situation The ICC needs to explain its policy because Hussain asked the organization whether it would have punished India because its team refused to travel unless there were government limitations or security dangers.
Hussain asked his question about ICC penalties when he said, “If India, a month before a tournament, said ‘our government does not want us to play in a country for a World Cup,’ would the ICC have been so firm and said, ‘You know the rules, bad luck, we’re knocking you out. The unequal distribution of power between international cricket bodies creates hazards which will lead to severe long-term consequences for the sport.
The only request which all parties involved present for evaluation needs to maintain consistent application. Bangladesh and Pakistan and India require identical handling for their cases. Indian fans will claim that we possess superior resources which allow us to control all situations according to their saying. People who receive authority over others must fulfill their duty to help their subordinates. When people continuously make fun of Bangladesh and Pakistan it results in negative effects on their cricket performance. He explained that the intense rivalry between India and Pakistan and India and Bangladesh has turned into unbalanced contests through the years.
Before completing his presentation on the subject Hussain expressed his appreciation for the Bangladesh Cricket Board because they defended their players.
IND vs PAK: Even Neutral Venues Fail
The ICC established an agreement that required India and Pakistan to compete only at neutral sites during ICC events after India declined to visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
The current solution has lost its operational capacity. Pakistan has chosen not to confront India during their upcoming group match on February 15 because the game will occur at a neutral site.
Pakistan has not yet delivered their decision to the ICC which has resulted in the governing body being unable to initiate any formal procedures.
Ex-PCB Chief Weighs In
Najam Sethi who formerly served as Pakistan Cricket Board chairman imposed complete responsibility on the BCCI. He accused the board of using its power to coerce other organizations.
The BCCI needs to change its approach. The BCCI has used intimidation tactics to control international cricketing organizations at every point. Pakistan once stood isolated because he considered it as one of ten countries which all supported India. The situation has undergone significant transformation since then.
Sethi explained Pakistan’s argument against the Big Three system because it enabled India Australia and England to dominate both power and financial resources.
“Ninth boards registered for the event but we remained the only team because the competition rules created unfair conditions,” he explained.
Sethi remembered that the original agreement broke down before India and Pakistan established their bilateral series schedule.
“The BCCI canceled our series agreement after one year without first meeting us in Mumbai,” Sethi said.
The T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan will take place on February 15. According to BCCI sources who spoke to India Today the team will travel to Sri Lanka for their upcoming match while conducting practice sessions and press conferences before the game.
