Ruben Trumpelmann of Namibia has written his name into the chronicles of T20I cricket history and set a mark that has never been surpassed. Namibia, competing in their third T20 World Cup in a row, faced Oman in the opening Group B match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 3 (IST).
Namibia invited Oman to bat first after winning the toss in the third match of the ongoing competition. When the new ball was in play, left-arm bowler Ruben Trumpelmann started the attack, with openers Kashyap Prajapati and Naseem Khushi opening the innings. A record that had never been broken in the 2633 Twenty20 Internationals before this match was set by the left-arm pacer in his opening over.
By taking two wickets in the opening two balls of a match, Trumplemann has made cricket history being the first player to do so. The accomplishment was accomplished when, in the opening two balls of the match, he dismissed Prajapati and Oman captain Aqib Ilyas for golden ducks.
The left-armer had some decent swing coming from over the wicket. Ball one was spot on for him; he pitched a swinging delivery fuller towards Prajapati and beat him to catch him squarely in front. The 26-year-old pacer hit Ilyas’ boot with another inswinging fuller delivery as he raced in for the second one to the Oman captain. Namibia had a fantastic start.
