Muttiah Muralitharan Picks Three Favourites To Win The ODI World Cup 2023

The legendary spinner of World Cricket, Muttiah Murlidharan predicts that India, Australia, and England are the top contenders to win the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 which is set to commence on October 5. He also points out that other teams have the potential to join the competition and make it exciting with a chance to clinch the respected trophy.

The former cricketer also talks about the significant role luck plays in major tournaments. He came with the example of the 2019 edition when New Zealand was considered the frontrunner to secure the trophy. However, the England cricket team under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan won the title beating the Blackcaps in a super over thriller.

While talking to India Today, he said,”So, I would say India, England, Australia, and the fourth team can be anyone. These three have more chances. But you never know; cricket is all about luck. As seen in the last World Cup, we thought that New Zealand would win and England won the trophy with luck favouring them.”

The veteran spinner believes that all the teams from the sub-continent will have an upper hand in the tournament and they will have a good set of spin bowlers.

“Definitely, the teams from the subcontinent will get an advantage because of the spin-friendly wickets and their batters are used to playing spin,” the former cricketer added.
