The game between Mumbai and Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 has become a hot topic among the voyeurs of the cricket game. It will be a very significant league game as the two best teams in Group C confront each other.
Still, astonishingly, this star-studded game has been put on the list of no-telecast and no-live-streaming. The cause is straight yet unpleasing
Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer ignored in the VHT broadcast
Very few encounters from Round 7 of the Vijay Hazare trophy are getting aired.
Per the official release, live coverage will only be available for the Karnataka vs Madhya Pradesh and Baroda vs Chandigarh matches on JioHotstar. All other games, including Mumbai vs Punjab, will not be streamed live.
To add to the absurdity, the match between Mumbai and Punjab has both Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, who are the captain and vice-captain of the Indian ODI team, respectively.
Gill plays for Punjab and Iyer leads Mumbai. Well, these two are the most prized names in Indian cricket and are considered to be the core of the national team.
With New Zealand ODI series starting on January 11, the fans were eagerly waiting to see both players in the 50-over format, probably not to judge their current form but to enjoy their presence.
The encounter between Mumbai and Punjab is also significant from the point of view of the tournament. Both teams have already secured their places in the quarterfinals and are now competing for the first position in Group C.
Gill, Iyer’s recent form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy
Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill have had very different starts to their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 campaigns just before the New Zealand ODI series.
Iyer’s first game back after injury was an incredible 82 off just 53 balls for Mumbai against Himachal Pradesh.
On the other hand, Gill had a bad day with bat for Punjab as he could only score 11 runs in a chase against Goa. The domestic form watch has turned out to be more interesting as India’s ODI captain is in poor form and vice-captain is doing well.
