Five-time title winner Mumbai Indians’ fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the first IPL 2025 matches since he has been sidelined since the Sydney Test in January with a back injury still healing. Not bowling in the second inning as Australia won the series 3-1 day two of the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Sydney found Bumrah recuperating from a stress injury in his lower back.
Named in the provisional squad Bumrah went on to claim the Player of the Series award in Australia for his 32 scalps; he was then sidelined by India for their Champions Trophy championship run. At the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, Bumrah—undergoing a back surgery in 2023—is presently rehabbing.
Bumrah should according to an ESPNCricinfo article for Friday join the MI team by beginning April, depending on the approval of the BCCI CoE medical staff. The document also said, “it could not be verified exactly how many games Bumrah would miss and if there was a fixed date of return.”
The first two IPL 2025 of MI will be played away from home – vs. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai on March 23, followed by a trip to Ahmedabad for a match with Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 29.
After heading to Lucknow to encounter Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 4 and returning to home to play Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 7, MI’s first home game at the Wankhede Stadium will be against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 31.
