Prithvi Shaw has officially parted ways with the Mumbai team after getting a No Objection Certificate from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) so he can join a new domestic team. Shaw has been out of the red ball setup for a while but has still played white ball cricket. Lately, though, his off-field issues have grabbed more attention than his performances on the field. The MCA confirmed they received his request and approved it, stating they recognize his contributions to Mumbai cricket over the years.
MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap said, Prithvi Shaw has been a great talent for us. We appreciate his decision and wish him all the best in whatever he chooses to do next. In his letter to the MCA, the 25-year-old expressed gratitude for his time with the team, which he joined back in 2017, but feels it’s time to move on.
He thanked the MCA for the support he’s received and mentioned that an exciting opportunity has come up to play for another state. He asked for a No Objection Certificate to make the switch official.
As of now, it’s unclear which new team he intends to join. Shaw made his decision after a lot of thought and respect for the MCA. He is thankful for the guidance and chances he’s had over the years.
Shaw has played five Tests and six ODIs for India, but he was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji squad last year due to fitness and discipline issues. He hasn’t played for Mumbai since the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, which they won. His fitness and discipline came under fire last season, and even Shreyas Iyer, who led Mumbai to the trophy win, noted that Shaw needs to improve his work ethic. Iyer remarked, He needs to get his act together. If he does, there are no limits for him.
