Meanwhile, India captain Rohit Sharma jokingly suggested that he could easily persuade Dinesh Karthik to take on the wicketkeeper’s role for the upcoming T20 World Cup and he even talked about the idea of bringing MS Dhoni back into the senior national team.
The ongoing IPL 2024 has been considered a platform for players to showcase their skills ahead of the World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to begin shortly after the IPL final, on June 1 in the USA and West Indies.
During a conversation on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Rohit Sharma commended the performances of MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik in the IPL 2024 season. While appreciating Dhoni’s batting prowess, Rohit humorously remarked that convincing Dhoni to take up the wicketkeeper’s role might be a tough task. He also highlighted Dhoni’s impressive innings for CSK against MI, where Chennai emerged victorious by 20 runs at the Wankhede Stadium.
“I was quite impressed, quite impressed, especially with Dinesh. The way he batted a couple of nights back. Dhoni, as well, came to play 4 balls, and made a huge impact, with those 20 runs. That was eventually the difference in the game,” Rohit said in the podcast.
He further added, “It’ll be hard to convince MSD for sure to come to the West Indies I guess. He is sick and tired. He is coming to the US though to do something else. He is into golf, so he will play golf I guess. DK will be easy to convince I guess.”
