“Ms Dhoni is still…” Ruturaj Gaikwad throws light on Chennai leadership group

The Chennai Super Kings have once again returned to their winning ways. The yellow army defeated KKR in a one-sided affair by seven wickets.

However, after the match got over, CSK’s skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, became nostalgic as Dhoni was on the non-strikers end when Gaikwad hit the winning runs for CSK. Ruturaj Gaikwad remembered that moment when he hit his first IPL 50, and Dhoni was there with him.

In his post-match presentation, Gaikwad said, “Little nostalgic for me. During my first IPL fifty, in a similar situation, Mahi Bhai was with me, and we finished the match.”

Gaikwad also threw light, saying that because of Ajinkya’s injury, he took initiative on his shoulder to anchor the innings.

Gaikwad said, “With Jinx injured, it was on me to bat through; I didn’t want to put the youngsters in a difficult situation. It was a 150-160 wicket. Jaddu always comes in after the power play with momentum in the spin department.”

Gaikwad also shed light on his bonding with players and the help that he receives from Ms. Dhoni.

Speaking about the same, Gaikwad said, “With this team, I don’t really need to tell things to anyone. Everyone’s in a great headspace; Mahi Bhai and Fleming are still around to take those calls.”

Speaking about his own personal form and strike rate, Gaikwad said that he wouldn’t mind a slow start heading into the tournament.

Gaikwad said, “I wouldn’t say mine is a slow start; in T20s, there are times you nick off one or two balls; sometimes you need a bit of luck to get going; maybe something for experts to talk about with my strike rate (laughs).”
