Ms Dhoni gives a massive hint about Dewald Brevis future in the Chennai Super Kings team

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may be out of contention for the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), but they are already planning for next season in terms of keeping players or releasing them for IPL 2026. Another nail in their coffin came with a defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings on Wednesday, inching closer to eight losses. But MS Dhoni seems to cherish holding on to Dewald Brevis, who in his eyes is an asset.

Brevis has only had two appearances this season, acting in place of Gurjapneet Singh, and made a fair impression upon Dhoni. He scored 32 against Punjab from a precarious position (48/3), with an important 78-run stand with Sam Curran. Also, he is good in the field, as he showed with a brilliant catch to dismiss Shreyas Iyer.

In two matches, Brevis has scored 74 runs at a strike rate of 145.09, which the team needs desperately, especially having struggled for energy earlier in the season. After the match, Dhoni praised him for giving the middle order some boost and said that he likes his contributions to the team. He gives momentum to the middle order. He is a good fielder, hits with power, and hits boundaries. He brings good energy, and I’m happy with his performance. Going forward, he can be an asset,” said Dhoni.

Dhoni also praised Sam Curran, who smashed 88 off 47 balls to aid CSK with 190 runs. ”He is a fighter; that’s for sure. He wants to contribute. But every time we tried to give him a go, the pitch was slow, so he struggled a bit. But today was one of the best pitches we’ve had at home this tournament,” he said.
