Mahendra Singh Dhoni looked quite upset as Chennai Super Kings added another one to their consecutive losses at Chepauk, which fell 5 wickets behind Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match played on Friday in 2025. The one victory SRH has got under their belt against CSK on this ground. While it nearly puts CSK out of contention for playoffs, it makes SRH still alive in the race- if only theoretically.
Chennai posted 154 batting first, after which they bowled SRH all out in 18.4 overs, with scores of 44, 32 not out from Ishan Kishan and Kamindu Mendis respectively, and 19 not out from Nitish Reddy. Outside Dewald Brevis, who scored a quickfire 42 off 25 balls, and Ayush Mhatre, with 30 off 19, the rest of CSK’s batsmen were quiet in this must-win affair. Harshal Patel was the standout performer for SRH, taking 4 wickets for 28 runs, while captain Pat Cummins also did well with figures of 2 for 21.
After the match, the elder statesman said, “Wickets kept falling, and I felt the surface really was an easy one for runs. 157 was not enough really. A bit two-paced but nothing outrageous. Our spinners delivered what they were to do, but somehow we are still 15 or 20 runs short. He said they were expected to perform better from the middle order, especially against spinners.
Dhoni went on to say that even though many players are not in form for CSK, he said, “if just one or two were out, that would be manageable. But when almost everybody doesn’t do their parts, then the dance becomes difficult. If a bunch of players aren’t performing well, then you can shake it up a bit. But when four or five are having the same sort of struggle, you have to change because you cannot keep doing this. We’re not scoring enough runs right now. That’s key. Sure, it doesn’t always have to be 180-200, but you need to read the conditions and score accordingly.”
