Mohammed Shami Or Siraj? Head Coach Rahul Dravid Opens On The Jasprit Bumrah’s Replacement For The T20 World Cup

Jasprit Bumrah is officially ruled out from the T20 World Cup. But the Indian Cricket Management is yet to announce the replacement for the star Indian pacer.

Yesterday, team India lost the 3rd T20I against South Africa, however, won the series 2-1. Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid looked puzzled when the media discussed Bumrah’s absence from the upcoming T20 World cup.

Team India lost the 3rd T20I against South Africa by 49 runs which were played at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. Talking after the match, Rahul Dravid said, “Bumrah’s absence is a big loss, he’s been a great player but it happens, it’s an opportunity for someone else to stand up. We’ll miss him, his personality around the group.”

Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar are the two reserves for the upcoming T20 World Cup while Mohammed Siraj was the replacement for Bumrah in the 3-match T20I series against South Africa.

In the press conference when asked about Mohammed Shami replacing Bumrah in the marquee event, the head coach replied, “We’ll have a look. We’ve had time since October 15, so, Shami is obviously someone who’s in the standbys. Unfortunately for us, he couldn’t play in this series (due to being struck by Covid-19). It would’ve been the idea from that perspective, but he’s in the National Cricket Academy at the moment.”

He further added, “We’ve to get reports as to how he’s recovering, and what’s his status after 14-15 days of covid, and we’ll take a call. Once I get a report on how he’s feeling, then obviously we (I and the selectors) can really take a call on how to move forward on it.”
