Mitchell Marsh kept up his great form in the IPL this season for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He hit his sixth fifty of the season while stepping up in Aiden Markram’s absence, helping Rishabh Pant score his second hundred in the competition. Before this season, Marsh had 655 runs in the IPL and this year, he piled up 627 runs in 13 games, making it the best season ever for an LSG batter and beating KL Rahul’s old record.
KL Rahul’s 616 runs in 2022 had previously set the bar as he led the Super Giants to the playoffs in their first IPL outing. Marsh scored his first IPL century against the Gujarat Titans in LSG’s next-to-last game, and he also broke Rahul’s record for the most fifties in a season for the team with six fifties and that century.

Marsh and Markram’s partnership really contributed to LSG exceeding expectations this season, especially since their bowling lineup was lacking. Marsh scored 627 runs, Pooran added 524, and Markram chipped in with 445 runs, which mostly covered for Pant’s slow start in the first 12 matches. On the other hand, the bowling, aside from Digvesh Rathi, struggled.
In the game against RCB, the Super Giants thought they could defend 227, but Jitesh Sharma’s stunning 85 off just 33 balls turned the game around, leaving the home team in shock, especially since their bowler Will O’Rourke gave away 74 runs in four overs. Looking ahead, LSG will want to find some stronger options in their bowling unit to make a real push for the playoffs next season. If there were debates about whether to keep Pant, he may have silenced them with that fantastic century.
