Mitchell Marsh achieves this special record in IPL against Mumbai Indians

Mitchell Marsh opened the batting for Lucknow Super Giants on Friday (April 4) in their IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. He scored 60 runs off 31 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes. Teaming up with Aiden Markram, he put together a solid 76-run partnership for the first wicket.

Marsh gave the LSG fans a good show and joined a select group of batters, becoming the second LSG player after Kyle Mayers to score a half-century in the powerplay. Here are the 50-plus scores for LSG during the powerplay:

  • 60* (31) – Mitchell Marsh vs Mumbai Indians in Lucknow on April 4, 2025
  • 54 (24) – Kyle Mayers vs Punjab Kings in Mohali on April 28, 2023
  • 53 (22) – Kyle Mayers vs Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on April 3, 2023

Marsh got his third half-century in just four matches, reaching 50 runs quickly in the sixth over. He needed only 27 balls to do it, hitting seven fours and two sixes along the way.

Despite getting out for a golden duck in his previous game against Punjab Kings, Marsh started off well by scoring two runs off the first ball bowled by Trent Boult. He quickly hit a boundary on the third ball. In the second over, he followed up with two more fours against Deepak Chahar. He then hit his first six in Boult’s second over and got another four shortly after. MI captain Hardik Pandya brought in Ashwani Kumar in the fourth over, but Marsh took him for 23 runs in his second over after a quieter start.
