Misbah-ul-Haq Set To Return To PCB With Double Responsibility

Misbah-ul-Haq, the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, is reportedly poised to work with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) again. After previously serving as the head coach and chief selector in 2019, Misbah is now expected to take on an honorary role as a cricket advisor to PCB chief Zaka Ashraf. This appointment marks a significant step for the new management overseeing Pakistan cricket.

In September 2019, Misbah-ul-Haq assumed the dual responsibility of head coach and chief selector, becoming the first person in Pakistan cricket’s history to hold both positions simultaneously. He replaced Mickey Arthur as head coach, under whom he had previously played when Pakistan reached the pinnacle of the international rankings in Test cricket. Misbah’s first tour as head coach resulted in a series loss against New Zealand, but he later guided Pakistan to their first Test series win against South Africa since 2003. However, he resigned as head coach in September 2021.

Misbah-ul-Haq is expected to serve as a cricket advisor to PCB chief Zaka Ashraf, a crucial role in managing Pakistan cricket. The appointment will likely be honorary, and he will not receive payment for his services. This move is seen as a significant step by the new management to enhance the cricket administration in Pakistan.

Throughout his cricketing career, Misbah-ul-Haq was known for his calm and composed demeanour, particularly valuable during turbulent times for Pakistan cricket. As captain, he provided the team with much-needed stability and leadership. As a batsman, Misbah exhibited versatility with his innovative stroke play and unwavering patience when defending.

After stepping down as head coach in 2021, Misbah-ul-Haq worked as an analyst and cricket expert for various TV networks. Despite his upcoming role with the PCB, he is expected to continue these television commitments.
