Former Pakistan cricket captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, has dismissed recent reports of being approached by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the national team’s coaching position. Following his previous stint as head coach from 2019 to 2021, Misbah stepped down just before the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. While clarifying his stance, the veteran cricketer mentioned his existing commitments but expressed willingness to consider the role once he is formally contacted.
Misbah-ul-Haq’s tenure as head coach of the Pakistan cricket team ended ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 due to reported differences with the then PCB chairman, Ramiz Raja. After his departure, there were rumors that Misbah might again be approached to assume the coaching position. However, Misbah has clarified that he has yet to be contacted by the PCB.
In response to the reports, Misbah stated that he has several prior commitments, including involvement with leagues and television channels. He expressed that taking an immediate role with the Pakistan team would be difficult. Misbah emphasized the need to understand the nature of the offered role and evaluate whether he could commit to it alongside his existing commitments. He indicated that a formal approach from the PCB would be necessary for him to consider the coaching position.
“PCB has not contacted me as of yet. When they will contact me, then I will see. I already have a lot of prior commitments, whether it is with leagues or with Television channels. It will take a lot of work to take up a role with the Pakistan team immediately. I will have to see what role will be offered and whether I can do it,” said Misbah to Cricket Pakistan.
