Mike Hesson Joins This Team As Head Coach After Leaving Royal Challengers Bangalore

On Wednesday, November 8, the former coach of the New Zealand cricket team was announced as the new head coach for Islamabad United for the upcoming season of Pakistan Super League (PSL). He departed from the Bangalore team, led by Faf du Plessis, after they finished in 6th place, failing to qualify for the playoffs in the Indian Premier League.

Mike Hesson has taken over the role of head coach from Azhar Mahmood. They have already won the Pakistan Super League (PSL) championship twice. Islamabad United has been among the most successful teams in the PSL, clinching the title in two out of the first three editions.

Islamabad United, who haven’t reached the PSL final since their championship win in 2018, are banking on Mike Hesson to bring success. Hesson’s successful tenure with Bangalore has raised hopes that he can deliver positive results for Islamabad United in the PSL.

“I have heard a great deal about the quality of cricket in the PSL, and I am delighted to be part of Islamabad United. The professional, modern, and damaged approach associated with the franchise resonates strongly with me, I am also impressed with ISLU’s strategy built around the principle of 4Es – Excellence, Empowerment, Education, and Environment. I look forward to working with the talented players and staff to build a successful team and deliver exciting cricket for the fans,” Hesson said in a statement from Islamabad United.
