India really has its work cut out after losing to England in the first test at Leeds. It’s tough to swallow knowing that India scored five centuries but still fell behind in the series. Former England captain Michael Vaughan, like many other ex-players from England, couldn’t resist a little bit of joking with Wasim Jaffer. Vaughan tweeted, “Evening @WasimJaffer14 .. Hope you are okay .. #1-0.” Jaffer shot back, “Happy that a young Indian team got you worried like this. Enjoy the win Michael, we’ll be back. #ENGvIND.” Then Vaughan added, Could be 4-0 now, Wasim.
Vaughan thinks Jofra Archer shouldn’t be picked for the second Test against India at Edgbaston next week, suggesting he needs some more practice in red-ball cricket with Sussex first before being considered for the third Test at Lord’s on July 10. When England faced India in the first Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which they won by five wickets at Headingley, Archer played for Sussex in a County Championship match, making his first first-class appearance since 2021 with figures of 1-32 in 18 overs. Vaughan commented, “He’s been out for four years, so there’s no rush. Just let him play a couple of games with Sussex and then bring him in for the game at Lord’s. I’d stick with the bowlers who did well in Leeds.”
As England leads the five-match series 1-0, they haven’t announced their squad for the second Test at Edgbaston starting July 2. England skipper Ben Stokes expressed excitement about Archer’s return to red-ball cricket, saying, “It’s great to see Jofra out there again, playing for England and Sussex. It’s been a long time for him, and it’s exciting to see him back in action.” Archer’s return would definitely boost England’s bowling lineup, which has faced injuries during this series against India. Plus, it gives Stokes’ team an extra advantage going into the Ashes in Australia later this year. The second Test against India kicks off at Edgbaston on July 2.
