Former England captain Michael Vaughan paid tribute to Virat Kohli after the Indian star announced his retirement from Test cricket, claiming no one has done more for the format than Kohli.
Kohli wrapped up his 14-year Test career with an emotional post, having played 123 Tests and scored 9,230 runs, including 30 centuries. Vaughan expressed disappointment over Kohli’s retirement, saying it leaves a void in the game. “I’m shocked and sad about it. In my 30 years in cricket, I don’t think anyone has done more for Test cricket than Virat,” he wrote in The Telegraph.
Kohli leaves as India’s most successful Test captain with 40 wins in 60 matches. Vaughan credited him with reviving India’s passion for Test cricket, stating it would be less exciting without him. He recalled a time when the interest in Test cricket was waning and praised Kohli for reigniting that love for the format. Vaughan called Kohli the greatest player across all formats and noted his retirement is a setback for Test cricket and fans alike, especially in England this summer.
