Michael Vaughan, who captained England in the past, believes that the fourth extension of Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins is the best ever bowling attack Australia has produced and also is important for Australia’s success in the next Border-Gavaskar Trophy which is going to be held on the home soil of India. The last two copies of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which in Australia took place in 2018/19 and 2020/21 have been won by India. Furthermore, the Australia team has been unable to win the series after this year since 2014-15 when they managed a 2-0 win in their own backyard.
‘We saw in the One Day game against Pakistan in Perth that there’s plenty of bounce and there’ll be a little bit of action for both sets of seamers. It is the best series at the minute thanks to the two quality teams; in the last six or seven years, Australia and India have been the two best Test match teams in the world by a consistent margin.’ Vaughan revealed during his interview on SEN 1170 Mornings.
India has dominated in recent years, as they have comprehensively outplayed the opposition. At times they have played aggressively, and at others they have been quite stubborn. So it will be interesting to see how the Australians respond,’ he said.
As for Lyon (530 wickets), Starc (358 wickets), and Hazlewood (273 wickets) and Cummins (269 wickets), they are all ranked within the top 10 Test wickets takers in the history of Australia cricket.
“This Australian team is quality, particularly that bowling attack. That quartet you could argue is Australia’s greatest bowling quartet of all time. So I’m intrigued to see how both sets of batters go against the bounce in Perth and also the quality they’re going to have to face,” Vaughan added.
The exciting five-match Test series commences on Friday in Perth, as Australia seeks to win the series after a decade, last winning in 2014-15.
