Team India concluded the T20I series against England in the most glorious fashion, winning the 5th and final match at the iconic Wankhede stadium on Sunday by a monumental 150 runs. This also assured India of a 4-1 series victory against Jos Buttler’s men. But Vaughan, the former English captain, does not see the scoreline of 4-1 as justly representing this series. In his opinion, it should’ve been 2-2 because in the 4th T20I India ‘played with 12 men.’ Vaughan’s comments come on heels of the Shivam Dube-Harshit Rana episode, which put the focus on the ‘concussion substitute.’
Earlier, Vaughan had tipped England to win 4-1 or 3-2, but India turned the tables in the 5-match series. “2-2. The last game doesn’t count. India played with 12 players,” he later wrote.
Starting brightly in the series by scoring a brutal 79 off just 34 balls, Abhishek Sharma saved his best for the last T20I of the five-match affair and ensured his team India finish the series at absolute high. In a blitzkrieg display, he brought Wankhede to its feet, obliterating several records en route, with an astounding 135 off just 54 deliveries, the second-fastest century for India.
The young gun simply hammered the English bowlers during the entire first innings and helped India reach an insurmountable score of 249 for 9, thanks to his sheer timing and brute power.
