The outcome of the second test match, which was played between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, resulted to Bangladesh winning the match by some 106 runs. In the end, the two-book match ended in an equal winners’ tie at Chattogram. This home team performed very well and was greatly encouraged by all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who had an excellent day in the field with bat and ball. Mehidy made an impressive century in the first innings, and now stands as just the second Bangladeshi cricketer to achieve the tally of 2000 runs and 200 wickets in Test cricket. He has done pretty well at 27, scoring 2068 runs by the end of this year at an average of 24.04, including two centuries and nine fifties, along with 205 wickets in the bag, which he added after a five-wicket haul in the second innings.
Mehidy did this in 53 tests and equaled Ravindra Jadeja’s record of hitting 2000 runs and 200 wickets in the least number of games. The fastest for England was Ian Botham, who did it in 42 Tests. Other former captains such as Kapil Dev and Imran Khan took 50 Tests for the same feat while Ravichandran Ashwin did it in 51 Tests.
However, they came back strongly in the second Test after a surprise defeat by three wickets in the first match of the series. After losing the toss, they managed to bowl Zimbabwe to 227 all out in the first innings, courtesy of Taijul Islam’s six-wicket haul. Shadman Islam and Mehidy then both posted centuries, taking Bangladesh to 444 runs, and built a huge lead of 217. Zimbabwe struggled in their second innings to make just 111 runs in 46.2 overs before succumbing to being all out by the third day.
