Mahela jayawardhane drops a massive statement on Rohit after the veteran scores first 50 in IPL 2025

MI coach Mahela Jayawardene wants Rohit Sharma to keep playing aggressively after his strong performance against CSK. Rohit came back into form, scoring 76 runs off 45 balls and helping Mumbai win by 9 wickets in the IPL El Clasico on April 20.

At the post-match press conference, Jayawardene praised Rohit’s ability to play with high energy while also reading the game well. He noted how Rohit wisely dealt with R Ashwin when he bowled, making smart choices. Jayawardene wants Rohit to take charge since he has teammates who can support him.

“He’s been playing with that tempo for a while, and he really gets it. He knows when to slow down, like when Ashwin came on. That’s what experienced players do,” Jayawardene said. “He’s a great player, and we want him to take control. Others can bat around him.”

When asked about Rohit’s recent form, Jayawardene mentioned that Rohit prepares in his own way and doesn’t need much outside motivation. He noted that Rohit can change the course of a game when he’s on a roll.

“Rohit practices, but he’s got his own style. He’s faced some good balls and tried a few things that didn’t quite work. With his experience, you don’t need to say too much—just keep the chat positive and trust he knows what to do. It was all about timing—he was getting starts but not finishing. When he does get going, like today, it really boosts the team,” Jayawardene added.
