India and Australia will face each other in a four-match Test series with the first match starting on 9 February. Before it the former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene predicted the scoreline of the India-Australia series.
Mahela Jayawardena, the former captain of Sri Lanka, thinks Australia can defeat India during the next Border-Gavaskar series on the subcontinent. Australians are the top-ranked Test side in the world going into the series, while India has gone 11 years without losing a home Test series.
In the current World Test Championship (WTC) round, the Pat Cummins-led team has only lost one match. They are on the verge of securing a place in the tournament’s finals, and a win in India would guarantee it.
While talking at the latest edition of ICC Review, Mahela Jayawardene said,“It’s difficult to predict, but being a Sri Lankan, I’m hoping that Australia can go all the way. Probably a 2-1 win for Australia, but it’s going to be a tough one.”
Further predicting the batters and bowlers to watch out for in the upcoming series, Jayawardene said,“I think it’s always going to be a great series. I think Indian conditions and how the Australian batsmen tackle that, they do have a really good bowling unit and how do the Indian batsmen tackle that … It depends on how each team starts the series and who’s got that momentum. But it will be fascinating.”
