The legend Yuzvendra Chahal came to life as he scooped up his second hat trick, an extremely rare feat in the IPL, on the 49th day of the league against the Chennai Super Kings. He now becomes the third bowler ever to have done so on at least two occasions, joining Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh. While Mishra has a record of three hat tricks, Chahal and Yuvraj have both accomplished it twice.
Chahal picked up a hat trick by dismissing Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad in one over. To make things even more exciting, he had already gotten MS Dhoni back to the pavilion in that same over. Before that over began, the CSK batters were seeming to hammer 200 runs, which Chahal completely altered with that over. Dhoni ended up hitting a six on the first ball of that over, but Chahal held his cool and dismissed Dhoni for the fourth time in T20s. His bowling stats were phenomenal: 4-32 in three overs.
Chahal adds another feather in his cap by becoming the first bowler to claim a hat trick against CSK in the IPL’s history. It was the first hat trick at Chepauk since 2008, when Lakshmipathy Balaji had made headlines.
CSK slipped from 184/5 to 190 all out in seven balls, looking set to easily thrash 200 runs with Sam Curran amassing a superb 88 runs off 47 balls; the wicket turned the table. Chahal took the limelight for that one over in which he and PBKS effectively restricted CSK.
And now here are the quick facts on what Jhal recorded with his hat trick- First bowler in history to make a hat trick against CSK. First bowler ever to have a hat trick in IPL with two different franchises. First bowler to take four wickets in one over two times, having done so beforehand with the Rajasthan Royals against KKR in 2022. Would be third bowler after Mishra and Yuvraj Singh to have achieved this multiple times in IPL.
If you add up to the remaining three other bowlers who are into the hat trick for PBKS, it would give you Yuvraj Singh, Mishra, Rabada
