Kohli Likely To Opt Out From The 2024 T20I World Cup, This Youngster To Replace Virat In The Playing XI

The upcoming T20 World Cup is just six months away and BCCI is still not certain about the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The Indian team is gearing up for the upcoming mega event with a strong desire to break their ten-year ICC Trophy drought. Before this T20 extravaganza, there was extensive speculation regarding the roles of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20I squad.

A recent report suggests that the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is in favor of Rohit Sharma as the captain for the upcoming World Cup. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is no longer the preferred choice as the No. 3 batsman for India in T20Is. It is worth noting that both Kohli and Rohit have not participated in any T20I matches since India’s disappointing ten-wicket defeat against England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022.

As per a Dainik Jagran report, the selectors and the board are looking to replace Virat Kohli with star Indian wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan. They want to keep an aggressive approach right from the start and this is the reason they are opting for Ishan Kishan at the number 3 position.

The left-handed batsman has played 32 T20Is for India to date where he has gathered 796 runs at an average of 25.67 and a strike rate of 124.37. He has smashed up six half-centuries in this format. Ishan Kishan was also a member of India’s 2021 T20 World Cup squad and only played one match which was against New Zealand.
