Kohli and Rohit Should Now Play The Tests and ODIs Only, Youngsters Must Be There For T20s; Ravi Shastri Huge Statement On Indian Stars

The former Indian all-rounder and head coach Ravi Shastri has given a huge statement on the international T20 future of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. According to Shastri, the selection of senior players for the T20 format including the 2024 T20 World Cup, will primarily depend on their current form. Rumors are surfacing all along that BCCI is planning to send a young team for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in the Caribbean country. Let us tell you that, team India had a poor performance in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli has gained his lost form after his exceptional performance in the 2022 T20 World Cup and his current strong form in the ongoing Indian Premier League has also been amazing. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has been struggling with the bat and he is finding it difficult to connect the ball. There is a chance that Hardik Pandya would come in front to take the full-time T20 captaincy from Rohit Sharma.

Ravi Shastri compared Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli with former players like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. While talking to ESPNcricinfo, he said, “Virat and Rohit are right where Sachin, Rahul Dravid, and Sourav and Laxman were. So, you know there is a template before you. If Virat and Rohit do not rule themselves out of T20, then it is up to form, one year is a long time. You will pick the best guys at that time, and then of course experience will also count, fitness will count.”

The former Indian head coach said that both Hitman Sharma and Kohli should look to play more and more in Tests and ODIs and now the youngster should be given a chance in the T20 format for India before the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Shastri said, “Players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are proven, you know what they are all about.
