The star Indian batter KL Rahul is all set to join the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka after clearing his fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Reports suggest that Rahul will be eligible for selection starting from the Super 4 stage. The 31-year-old had been sidelined due to an injury sustained while fielding in the Lucknow SuperGiants vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore match.
Rahul was absent from the World Test Championship 2023 final due to a thigh and lower-hip injury, for which he underwent successful surgery. He completed his rehabilitation at the NCA and was picked in the Asia Cup 2023 squad. Unfortunately, he encountered a new setback shortly before his selection, sustaining a minor injury during practice games.
Rahul decided not to travel with the team to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup 2023 and opted to remain at the NCA as a precautionary measure in preparation for the ODI World Cup 2023 which is set to kick off in India on October 5th. Both Head Coach Rahul Dravid and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar had previously indicated that Rahul would not be available for the initial matches of the Asia Cup tournament.
And now according to the reports, Rahul will join the team after getting fully fit. However, he will not play the match against Nepal and will be available for the first game of super 4 stage.
In the absence of KL Rahul, the young Indian batter Ishan Kishan was asked to take charge against Pakistan. The southpaw played a brilliant innings of 82 runs and helped team India reach a total of 266 runs.
