KL Rahul talked about how he’s had to change his batting position a lot throughout his career. He doesn’t feel like he had much say in those decisions. He’s batted as an opener and even at No. 7, depending on what the team needed. Rahul mentioned he’s okay with adjusting his game for the team’s sake.
If you look at my career, I don’t really think I had a choice. I’m not the type to sit down with the selectors or the captain and say what I want to do, he said. I just want to be part of the team, and I think it’s better for me to adapt to whatever challenges come my way instead of overthinking it.
He also reflected on India’s recent struggles in Test matches, noting that they should have performed better in the last couple of series. They lost all three Tests to New Zealand at home and then dropped the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia.
In the last few Test series, we really could have batted better. Losing three Tests at home, especially when we know the conditions, was tough.
New Zealand found a way to keep us from scoring easily, which built up pressure and led to some bad shots from us, Rahul explained. The pitch had some assistance for spinners, but they managed to put us under pressure. If we’d batted better, we might have had a different result against New Zealand. Unfortunately, we carried on the habit of not seizing crucial moments and made the same mistakes in the series against Australia.
