Kl Rahul achieves this elusive milestone in IPL

KL Rahul, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter, is currently playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. On April 22, he made history by becoming the fastest player to score 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League. The 32-year-old from Bengaluru needed 51 runs in a match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, and he hit a single on the third ball of the 18th over to reach this milestone.

Rahul, who joined DC for Rs 14 crore in last year’s IPL mega auction, reached the 5000-run mark in his 130th inning out of 139 IPL matches, breaking the record previously held by David Warner, who did it in 135 innings. In his match against LSG, Rahul also passed Robin Uthappa and Chris Gayle to become the eighth highest run scorer in IPL history.

Virat Kohli leads the all-time run tally with 8326 runs in 260 matches, followed by Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, and AB de Villiers. Rahul made his IPL debut in 2013 and has played for five teams over the years. He’s the top run scorer in IPL history for Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, and he has also contributed runs for RCB and SRH.
