Looks like Kolkata Knight Riders’ home game against Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 is probably moving to Guwahati. The police said they can’t provide security for the IPL game because of Ram Navami celebrations happening that day, CAB president Snehasish Ganguly told PTI. A BJP leader, Suvendu Adhikari, mentioned that they’re planning over 20,000 processions all over West Bengal for the festival.
We’ve asked the BCCI to change the match schedule, but there’s no chance to reschedule it in Kolkata later. Now, I’m hearing it might be moved to Guwahati, Ganguly informed PTI.
The KKR versus LSG game, which is owned by Sanjiv Goenka, was quite anticipated. Both teams have big local fan bases, so a full stadium was expected.
The IPL hasn’t put out an official statement yet.
Back in 2024, the IPL game between KKR and Rajasthan Royals was also rescheduled because there weren’t enough security measures available during Ram Navami.
I spoke with the Kolkata Police a few times, and they said they couldn’t provide enough security that day, Snehasish added.
Without police protection, dealing with a crowd of 65,000 people is out of the question, Snehasish mentioned on Tuesday.
