“Just wait and Watch…”Irfan Pathan’s massive praise for Virat Kohli ahead of Team India’s first game in Super 8

India will play their first match in the Super 8s round of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Afghanistan on Thursday, June 20. India is a bit worried about their batting performance because their batters haven’t been very strong on the pitch in New York during the group stage. Even though Virat Kohli, the opening batsman, has scored less than ten runs in three games, former cricketer Irfan Pathan isn’t worried about it.

In an interaction on Star Sports before India’s game against Afghanistan, Pathan mentioned that Kohli is a player who performs well in crucial matches and will definitely improve his game in the important ones. Kohli has been very aggressive during the group stage of the tournament, often losing his wicket by attempting to play his shots early in the innings. This is something the fans had been hoping to see from him throughout the IPL.

“He knows how to perform well in important games, right? That’s what makes him very special. He’s a unique player, and I believe he’ll step up and say, ‘I’ll do this for Team India.’ When the big games come, we’ve always seen Virat Kohli play well. Just wait and see, he’ll start hitting those big shots now. He’ll definitely use those shots because of the conditions in New York. But now, things will change, and you’ll see the true Virat Kohli shine,” Irfan Pathan said before the India vs Afghanistan game.

India will face a tough challenge from Afghanistan’s spin bowlers. The key players to watch out for are Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Mohammad Nabi. During a discussion, Ambati Rayudu mentioned that India might target Rashid Khan in the upcoming match because he hasn’t been as effective since his surgery after the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Rayudu explained, “The main challenge with Rashid Khan is not to be overly aggressive against him. That’s when you get into trouble. As a batsman, you should wait for the occasional bad balls he throws, which you can take advantage of. Also, since his injury, his pace isn’t the same. Now, you have more time, and many players have been scoring against Rashid. Plus, the Indian batsmen are very familiar with his style.”

Team India will be up against Afghanistan on June 20 in Barbados.
