In a notable turn of events, Australia has suffered a great loss, since it is highly probable that their star fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will not be playing in the current Ashes series due to another injury. To make the announcement all the more alarming, the right-arm quick was on his way back after a hamstring injury but now has suffered anew, thus prolonging his wait for making a comeback at national level.
The Sidney Morning Herald has reported that Josh Hazlewood has been experiencing Achilles pain as he slowly recovers from a hamstring injury. Moreover, for those who are not well informed, Hazlewood could not play the first two Tests of the Ashes due to the aforementioned hamstring injury, but now the likelihood is that he will be off the field for a considerable period of time until he heals completely from the ever-recurring Achilles injury.
The article furthermore mentioned that Hazlewood had already been scheduled to fly to Brisbane, where he would have continued with his rehab, but the trip was cancelled just before he was to leave because of the latest setback regarding his Achilles.
“During the course of this week, Josh Hazlewood made known to us his Achilles condition and at the same time, he was going through his physio treatment for a recent hamstring injury. This is an injury of low severity and it is predicted that he would return to running and bowling next week,” was how a spokesperson from Cricket Australia expressed it in a statement taken up by the Sidney Morning Herald.
Josh Hazlewood and his battle with achilles injury
It is really curious that Josh Hazlewood is having to deal with achilles injury again, but has a long history of these kinds of inconveniences. Back in 2023, Hazlewood was a non-participant in the cricket world for four months due to this very problem, that also led him to miss the Tests against India and to cut his IPL stint short due to a relapse as well.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru meanwhile are in a tough situation since the right arm pacer has a past of taking longer than expected to bounce back from his Achilles injury. However, the fast bowler’s first concern is to be fit enough for the Ashes.
