England had a great win against the West Indies in the first T20I of their series on June 6 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. The home team batted first and really put on a show. Jamie Smith kicked things off with a solid 38 runs, but it was Jos Buttler who stole the spotlight. He scored a fantastic 96 runs off 59 balls before getting out, making him the first England wicketkeeper to be dismissed in the 90s in T20Is. He joined the club of English players who fell in the 90s, including Alex Hales, Eoin Morgan, and Jonny Bairstow.
England managed to reach a total of 188 runs thanks to strong contributions from Buttler, Smith, and Jacob Bethell. For the West Indies, Romario Shepherd was the standout bowler with two wickets, while Alzarri Joseph, Andre Russell, and Roston Chase each claimed one.
When it was time for the West Indies to bat, Evin Lewis and Johnson Charles got things going with 39 and 18 runs, respectively. Unfortunately, Shai Hope struggled and only managed three runs. Roston Chase added 24 runs, but the middle order couldn’t keep up, and the West Indies ended their innings at 167 runs. Liam Dawson was the star with the ball for England, taking four wickets, while Matthew Potts and Bethell each took two and Adil Rashid chipped in with one. In the end, England won by 21 runs.
