Jos Buttler hits 5 sixes in an over but fails to break this elusive record of Yuvraj Singh

England’s team leader, Jos Buttler, played very aggressively against the USA’s bowling team in their match during the T20 World Cup 2024. Buttler hit five big shots over the fence in just one over, scoring a huge 32 runs off the left-arm spinner, Harmeet Singh.

Buttler might have tied Indian star Yuvraj Singh’s record if he had faced the first ball of Harmeet’s second over, which was the 9th ball of the game and hit it for a six. Phil Salt let Buttler take the first ball, and then the English captain went into his powerful mode.

He ran quickly down the track to hit the first ball over the long-off area. Then, he hit a slower ball towards the deep mid-wicket boundary on his second hit. He made it three sixes in a row with a low, straight shot, and then hit the next ball over square leg. The English captain finished the over by hitting another big shot, this time towards long-on, which broke the solar panel glass.

Buttler is now the second player to hit over four sixes in a single over. The only other player to do this was Yuvraj, who hit six sixes in one over during the 2007 T20 World Cup against England. In this game, Buttler scored 83 runs off just 38 balls and helped his team win in just 9.4 overs without losing any wickets. They had 62 balls left, which is the most in a 10-wicket victory in a T20 World Cup match..

After their victory, Buttler shared his thoughts on his team’s performance. “We really respected the USA team and discussed that if we played with high energy, we would be too strong for them. After a few overs, we aimed to take advantage of the wind against this side. Adil played exceptionally well, and Livi also bowled excellently together. It’s tough when you don’t bowl in one game and then have to bowl four overs in the next, so well done to him for being prepared. We have many good players to choose from, and today we chose CJ to strengthen our batting and add depth. Getting a hat-trick in the World Cup is a fantastic achievement. Honestly, I’ve felt good all year. I feel like I’m hitting the ball well, and it’s important for me to manage my own game. Even though I’m the captain, I’m just one player out of eleven, and I need to do my part,” Buttler explained after the game.
